Classes

The little toddler is now: "I am not a toddler - I am Soma!" allowing Nora to range a bit farther from home.

Nora comes to the knitting workshop/classroom with over 16 years of university teaching experience. Guided by her mission of empowering the knitters, Noni Workshops emphasize participant-centered, hands-on, experiential learning. Her Design-Your-Own-Bag classes aim to show knitters that they can successfully knit outside of pattern parameters, write their own patterns, and create their own original bags. Even the workshops that use Noni patterns as a starting point (Knitting Flowers to Felt; Pick a Nonibag, Any Nonibag; Finishing (and felting) Garments), focus on helping students put their own personal touches on their projects.

The following is a list of "standard" classes offered by Nora. However, unique workshops ranging from a few hours to several days, whether in one weekend or over several, can be created for your store. For more information, please write to Nora at nora@nonipatterns.com

Pick a Noni Bag, Any Nonibag
A 2 to 3 day workshop.
"Pick the bag you love but are afraid to knit. . . " is how Nora begins this workshop. Participants choose any Noni bag as the project and make it from start to finish. Nora offers all the insider tips and tricks to make every bag look as Noni as the bags in the pictures on the front of the patterns.

Design Your Own Bag
A 2 to 3 day workshop.
This workshop is for knitters who want an item that is singularly unique. Participants bring their imaginations and Nora helps transform these ideas into finished articles. Whether a bag shaped like a cow utter or a favorite orchid, Nora will guide the students through the process of design and build, ending with beautiful one-of-a-kinds to be treasured for years to come.

Knitting Flowers to Felt, or Not
A one or half day workshop.
In this class, students learn to make beautiful knitted flowers to felt (or not) and use as embellishments for bags, gifts, garments, shoes, afghans and more. Nora presents several basic methods for making flowers and helps students through the knitting process.

Knitting, Felting, and Finishing Garments
Three day workshop.
With the release of her Fall 2008 line of garments for kids and grown-ups, Nora is excited to also offer a class focused on garments. Participants use the patterns of their choice as a context for perfecting excellent finishing techniques and personalized embellishment. They learn invisible seam stitch, mattress stitching, and blocking. Students are also encouraged to think up their own unique embellishments to truly personalizing their garments. They finish their garments and slightly felt them (when relevant), with the final focus on the application and arrangement of embellishment, finding the right buttons and other accessories, beading, and other techniques to for AMAZING, one-of-a-kind garments!
